My dear boys
It was with great sadness that I took the decision not to
attend your reunion last weekend.
Matters of considerable import occupy me in no small way in these
times and you will forgive me if I no longer render unto Caesar
but to a much higher power.
I trust that you upheld the traditions we set forth in your years
at St Augustine's Grammar School, and I know that many of you tred
the paths of honesty and decency upon which, I hope, we set you
those long years past.
You, my dear boys, were an elite of your time, quite literally the
"electi" from your generation; you, each of you, held
the potential for great achievement, and I am warmed by your
successes, your ambition and your continuing confidence within
the world.
Think of me from time to time in your busy lives, as I pray for
you all.
It is of course traditional at this season to wish you and your
families the blessings and felicitations of the time of our
saviour's birth, and I do so now.
I also invite you to submit to me your accounts of the reunion,
your impressions of your colleagues and your valued suggestions
for future events - I will on this occasion do no more than
remind you of the required format, which I am quite sure you will
recall.
With you in the inheritance of the angels
Francis J McGuiness, Headmaster
